Platteville, Wisconsin, is a city in Grant County where US Highway 151 and state highways 80 and 81 meet. It lies about 20 miles northeast of Dubuque, Iowa, which is at the meeting of Wisconsin, Iowa, and Illinois. It has about 11,800 residents.
It was originally called Platte River Diggings - references to the river and mining in the area. For a short time it was changed to Lebanon (reason unknown) and was finally changed to Platteville.
