Hawthorne, Wisconsin, is located in Douglas County just west of US Highway 53 along County B about 20 miles southeast of Superior.

The settlement was named either for the eponymous plants in the area, for author Nathaniel Hawthorne, or for lumberman W. B. Hawthorne.
