Elroy 716 |
The origins of the name are confused. It seems that it was originally supposed to be called LeRoy, possibly after a place in Scotland or after LeRoy, New York, as suggested by James Madison Brintnall. In any case, that name was already taken, so Brintnall's daughter, Lydia (possibly) suggested switching the first two letters around. Or Brintnall may have suggested Ell Roy, possibly after a place in Scotland.
So, somehow or other it appears the Brintnall family, LeRoy, and Scotland were involved in the naming of Elroy. Pick the details you like best for the rest of the story.
