Chili, Wisconsin, is located on county road Y in Clark County, 2 miles north of US Highway 10 and about 10 miles west of Marshfield.
According to The Romance of Wisconsin Place Names, "One cold day during the winter of 1881 the railroad officials came for the purpose of selecting a name. It was so cold they did not want to get out of the train, so one of them said, 'Let's call this stop Chili because it is really chilly here.'"
On the other hand, the name may also be a reference to the country of Chile.
