Beloit L-2 H |
Beloit, Wisconsin, is in Rock County on the Illinois border. The Rock River runs through the city and meets Turtle Creek just south of the border. I-90 and I-43 meet within the city limits. The population of Beloit proper (not metro) is about 36,600.
The town was originally called Turtle Creek and then New Albany (after Albany, Vermont), but it was changed to Beloit at the suggestion of a Major Johnston who wanted something that sounded like Detroit. (Who knows why?)
