Hazel Green, Wisconsin, is a village in Grant and Lafayette counties where state highways 11 and 80 come together about 10 miles east of Dubuque, Iowa, which is on the Mississippi River where Wisconsin, Illinois, and Iowa meet. About 1200 people live in Hazel Green.
It was first named Hardy's Scrape after James Hardy, who won a fight over a mine. Over time, this became Hard Scrabble. When a post office was established, Hazel Green was suggested either for the hazelnut trees or bushes in the area or because the proponent may have come from Hazel Green, Kentucky.
