Colfax, Wisconsin, is located at the intersection of state highways 40 and 170 in Dunn County about 20 miles west of Chippewa Falls. It has about 1100 residents.
The village was first known as Begga Town because of all the "ruttabeggas" raised by farmers in the area. It was named Colfax in honor of Schuyler Colfax, vice president to Ulysses Grant.
