Benton, Wisconsin, is a village on state highway 11 in Lafayette County in the southwest corner of the state. It's about 18 miles east-northeast of Dubuque, Iowa. It was named for Thomas Hart Benton. Previously it was called Swindlers' (or Swindler's, per the name of the museum) Ridge. (It should have kept that more interesting name.) Today it has about 950 residents.
